Tin Tức – News: BPSOS-Springfield Honors Community With Asian American Heritage Day

June 9, 2009: In response to President Barack Obama’s proclamation of May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, BPSOS-Springfield coordinated a special event with Thu Pham, director of the Vietnamese Health Project. The May 22 Asian American Heritage Day event that resulted from the collaboration was honored with recognition from Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, who cited the positive contributions that Asians, prominent among them Vietnamese, have made to their Massachusetts city.

Sarno thanked Vietnamese agencies like Boat People SOS, the Springfield Vietnamese American Civic Association, the Vietnamese Health Project at Mercy Medical Center, and the Vietnamese Veterans’ Group.

The mayor recognized Vietnamese citizens who are working for the city and meeting the needs of the community, including Xu Ba Tran at the Health Department and Hoa Pham at the Probate Court, and others like Thu Pham at Mercy Medical Center, as well as BPSOS-Springfield branch manager Khanh Nguyen and fund development coordinator Maddie Allen.

Nguyen thanked the mayor for his recognition and congratulated the Asian community for its achievements.

Springfield staff members expressed pride at the Vietnamese-American community’s contributions in the areas of social service, education, local government, arts, religion, and business.
