BPSOS-Falls Church intern Soo Kim presents We Can! healthy habits to staff members.
April 9, 2009: BPSOS-Falls Church staff had a rare opportunity on March 16. They combined learning how to take better care of their clients’ health with a lesson in how to improve their own well-being!
The opportunity came through a workshop under the auspices of the We Can! Project – a national education program working with youth ages 8-13 and their parents and caregivers to address the growing problem of overweight in our nation’s youth.
BPSOS’ Youth Program in Falls Church is currently implementing this project through its after-school programs, but also wanted to reach BPSOS’ employees with the health-positive messages.
The workshop provided information that would be valuable not only to the staff, but also to the clients they work with. Nineteen employees took part, and thereby learned about We Can! goal of families working together towards healthier lives through three main objectives: smart nutrition, physical activity, and reduced screen time.
The workshop spurred a vibrant group discussion about people’s personal experiences with various health challenges and concerns. Employees said they left the workshop empowered and energized to take steps towards healthier lifestyles for themselves, their clients, and today’s youth. And… full!
BPSOS staff members chow down on healthy fare at the We Can! workshop.
