October 29, 2008: The event may have been called “A Forgotten Life,” but people in Houston will be remembering it for a long time to come!

This special gathering on Friday Oct. 24 featured a live auction, classical guitar, presentations on the global problem of human trafficking, and delicious food. Around 75 guests took part, nearly $17,000 was raised for BPSOS’ far-reaching programs to stop human trafficking, and more donations are still flowing in. BPSOS-Houston wants to thank everyone who contributed – your commitment to fighting human trafficking makes a world of difference!

More photos of the evening are ahead…

Already, efforts by BPSOS and its partner, the Coalition to Abolish Modern-day Slavery in Asia (CAMSA), have borne fruit. “In only six months of action, our goodwill embassy in Malaysia has intervened in 30 cases both large and small, affecting around 3,000 workers,” noted Dr. Nguyen Dinh Thang, BPSOS executive director, in his presentation at the event. You can read more about BPSOS’ anti-trafficking work at our blog, Vietnamese Workers Abroad: A Rights Watch.

Besides the great efforts of our staff, BPSOS-Houston is extremely grateful to the volunteer committee members who worked closely with us to put on this event, including Nguyen Bach Hac (our able host and master of ceremonies) and Nguyen Thuy Hang.

We’re also grateful to Nguyen Thuy Hang for her role as an MC, and to the fantastic event volunteers, Trang Nguyen, Phuong Nguyen, Linda Nguyen, Phi Ly, Michelle Le, Doan Thanh Nguyen, Ngoc Huynh, Jessica Schaffner, Chi Mai Doan, Tony Vu Dinh, and Charles Vora. We’re also grateful to the cast of hundreds who played other supporting roles – thank you, everyone!
