BPSOS-Houston staff and volunteers serve seniors in the wake of Hurricane Ike.
September 26, 2008: The reports continue to roll in from Houston’s staff, who are working hard to connect clients to services. According to staff attorney An-Phong Vo:
Wednesday: Jannett Diep helped Bac Lang and her husband apply for food stamps they need in order to get by after Hurricane Ike.
Currently, they are living on Bac Lang’s income of $700 per month because her husband recently lost vision in both eyes. Doctors tried to save his eyes, but after three surgeries they determined that there was nothing they could do to save his vision.
Another client, Bui, has been very humble about his situation. He is really grateful that he and his wife were not badly affected by Hurricane Ike. He knows that other families have lost their homes, while he, at least, still has his life and a roof over his head.
