August 12, 2008: Over the past 6 years, the Boat People SOS Community Development Department has helped Vietnamese-American working families by:
Training over 500 adult refugees and immigrants, with 245 completing English as Second Language Student Performance Level 1 and Level 2; 75 completing workplace mentoring; 60 completing a job placement program; 33 being placed in jobs; and 80 passing the US citizenship exam.
Helping 1,800 low-income taxpayers claim $3 million in tax credits and tax refunds.
Training some 81 volunteer tax assistants to help community members with tax preparation.
Opening first bank accounts for 220 “unbanked” refugees and immigrants.
